A tour of Prince Edward Island through a local's eyes

Looking to really get to know a place? Then tapping into the knowledge of a local is definitely where you should start.
On the small-in-size, big-in-fun province of Prince Edward Island, Instagrammer Jenna Moore will kindly act as your local guide giving you tips on how to get the most out of your Maritime experience.
St. Peter's Harbour

White-sand beaches and warm waters characterize PEI. On the North Shore of the island, there are plenty of beaches that you can get to with very little trouble in a given day. In fact, you should stop at more than one if you can! During the summer months, locals prefer more secluded beaches over the popular ones. This particular beach is found at an unmarked entrance at St. Peter’s Harbour. If you ask nicely, any Islander will gladly share the directions with you.
Point Prim Chowder House

Do you like fine dining? Do you like the freshest seafood you can get? Do you like relaxing on a patio overlooking the water with a lighthouse and all? Well you can have it all at Point Prim Chowder House, a little establishment with the most delightfully fresh menu of seasonal dishes. Plus, they serve them all up on their stunning patio. Be sure to make a reservation well in advance as this place fills up for the entire summer season!
Island Gold Honey

If you want a true adventure, head to Island Gold Honey in Savage Harbour on the North Shore for a personal tour of their bee colony. For a $20 fee, you can get suited up in a beekeepers suit and head out to the fields with a spoon in hand to try some fresh honey comb and sun-warmed honey too. If you plan it just right, you may even get to try some of their honey made during blueberry season -- there is nothing sweeter.
Route 6 Fish N' Chips

This is Ronnie Blacquiere, a staple in North Rustico for years as former owner of the Idle Oars and Black Bart's Restaurants. Now retired, Ronnie opened a tiny, yet beautiful, fish n' chips stand where the old restaurant used to stand on Route 6. Jenna has known this man since she was very young and she's never seen him as happy as she did when she I went to visit him at his stand during the summer. You honestly cannot beat his freshly breaded fish, clams, or scallops and his delicious PEI potato French fries. A must stop on your way home from a day in the sun.
Receiver Coffee Co.

The third wave coffee scene has finally made an appearance in Charlottetown with the opening of Receiver Coffee Co. on Victoria Row. What makes this place a little better than your average coffee shop is that they roast their own beans and they're pretty fantastic. Plus, they breakfast and brunch is often the talk of the town too. Stop by for your cuppa and grab a delicious baked good or something off of their ever-changing menu.
Upstreet Craft Brewing

This is a fantastic place to grab a pint or two and what a hit it has become! Upstreet Craft Brewing serves some of the finest craft beer you can find on the island. Stop by for a pint of one of their signature beers, including the Rhuby Social, or better yet grab a whole flight, Stay for board games, great local talent, and some Thai food from the truck that resides just outside.
The North Shore

While walking along the beaches of the North Shore, you can gather a whole host of interesting objects. Follow bird or crab tracks or collect seashells and driftwood. You can spend hours just combing the beaches in the warm Island air, it really is different here.
