This independent brew pub aims to make all its guests just as passionate about good food and craft beer. Try their savoury flatbreads or opt for a few appetizers with your drink of choice!
Chosabi
Another spot to drop into on a busy day in the Exchange District, Chosabi was the first place in Winnipeg to bring the epic sushi burrito to hungry patrons. If giant-sized sushi somehow isn't your thing, try one of their delicious curry or rice bowls. And if they weren't already cool enough, be sure to snap a few photos of their trendy interior decor, featuring a mural of a koi fish.
The Chilli Chutney
Located in Manitoba's second largest city, Brandon, The Chilli Chutney is an authentic East Indian culinary delight. There are tons of dishes to choose from on the menu, with classics like deep fried paneer, chicken vindaloo, samosas, and butter chicken. Can't choose? Opt for the buffet!
Farmers' Markets
Summer just wouldn't be summer without a visit to at least one farmers' market. Luckily, it's easy to accomplish! Around every corner is a community market bursting with fresh homegrown and handmade fare. If you're in Winnipeg, head to the Downtown Farmers' Market, St. Norbert Farmers' Market or The Forks Farmers' Market. If you want to venture outside of city limits on your quest for fresh food, try the Arnes Farmers' Market in Manitoba's Interlake.
Clementine
With one more option in Winnipeg's Exchange District, it's obvious where the place to be is on a visit to our capital city. The owners of renowned restaurant Segovia dreamed up this little breakfast and lunch spot, and it's been growing in popularity ever since. Try the Turkish eggs, the smoked arctic char or the fried chicken toast for a brunch like you've never had before.
Saperavi
Our multicultural population delivers again, with the first Georgian restaurant on the Prairies popping up right here in Winnipeg. Try the unique flavours of this small country, with influences from Middle Eastern, Western Asian, and European traditions. If you like your bevvie paired perfectly with your food, ask for a recommended Georgian wine.
White House Bakery
Nestled into the quaint summer town of Wasagaming in Riding Mountain National Park, the White House is an absolute must if you happen to be a lover of cinnamon buns. Each morning, rise from your cabin, campground, or hotel and follow the sweet scent to this little bakery for fresh baked goodies.
Bell Aura Bed, Breakfast & Bistro
If given the option, why wouldn't you enjoy every meal in a lovely and relaxing setting? Bell Aura Bed, Breakfast & Bistro in Carman, Manitoba, is the ideal place to stay AND eat, with dishes from various countries and traditions. Made with ingredients straight from the garden, try the French Toast Raphael, the bannock or the baklava.
Máquè
As the brain child of one of Winnipeg's top chefs, Scott Bagshaw, Máquè delivers on all fronts of flavour and quality. The Asian fusion-inspired restaurant serves up tapas-style dishes and fine wine. Reservations are definitely recommended, as the restaurant only seats 38 and tends to be busy!
Livery Barn
If you find yourself at the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach, don't forget to stop into the Livery Barn (traditionally, a rest stop for pioneers) for a taste of Mennonite food. You might not recognize the names, but be sure to try foarma worscht (locally made pork sausage) and vereniki (perogy filled with cottage cheese).
Ship & Plough Tavern
One of Gimli's coolest establishments is also one of the most original, serving up dishes like a cheeseburger flatbread, dill pickle soup, and dark chocolate chip chili cookies. And while you're enjoying one of these unique dishes you can also enjoy live entertainment, taste brews, and eat Gimli's best delicacy: Lake Winnipeg pickerel!
Mon Ami Louis
Located on the lovely and eye-catching Esplanade Riel footbridge, Mon Ami Louis is only open seasonally, making it even more imperative that you try it during the summer months. Savour the view while trying elegant French food over the Red River.
Bin 22 Coffee Co.
Don't coffee houses and historic buildings go together so perfectly? Bin 22 Coffee Co. in Russell, Manitoba thought so, setting up shop in a former red-brick bank, which happens to lend perfectly to their rustic decor. Bring a good book to read over steamy espressos, cappuccinos, and lattes.
Spicy Radish
If you find yourself travelling to Whiteshell or Whitemouth Falls Provincial Park this summer (and you should), be sure to stop into the delightful Spicy Radish for a fresh bite to eat. The pistachio crusted haddock and grandma Jessie's strawberry pie will fuel you to your next destination: the lake!
Sasagiu Rapids Lodge
If you're looking for Thai food in northern Manitoba, Sasagiu Rapids Lodge has you covered. This gorgeous lodge is located in the Thompson area, serving up traditional Canadian treats and Thai-riffic dishes. The lodge is situated by the striking Sasagiu Rapids while a short drive will bring you to Manitoba's most spectacular Pisew Falls.
Dutch Drive In
What's better than burgers, fries, and milkshakes on a hot summer day? Visit this retro drive-in in The Pas and be served directly in your vehicle by carhops, just like in the good ol' days. The fries are somewhat of an institution in The Pas, made from hand-peeled potato slices that are cooked twice over.
