A weekend in Whistler is a bucket-list ski experience, but British Columbia is huge at 944,735 square kilometres and peppered with mountain experiences in nearly every part of the province. Here are five other British Columbia destinations, all a quick flight from Vancouver or Victoria, and surrounded by ski resorts and mountain playgrounds.
Trail
The area around Trail is ideal for passionate skiers to weekend away. Rossland's RED Mountain Resort is known for deep powder, uncrowded bowls, and incredible glades. The artsy town of Nelson's Whitewater Ski Resort offers up some of the best skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing around. Top it off with cat-skiing at Baldface Lodge, and you have an unforgettable ski getaway.
Kelowna
Kelowna is an hour flight from Victoria and home to Big White Ski Resort (a favourite family ski destination). The champagne powder continues north to Vernon at SilverStar Mountain Resort, Kamloops at Sun Peaks Resort, and south to Penticton at Apex Mountain Resort.
Cranbrook
Situated beside the Selkirk and Rocky mountains, Cranbrook is a short drive from both Kimberley Alpine Resort (home to North America's longest night-skiing trail), and Fernie Alpine Resort (one of the snowiest ski destinations in Canada).
Revelstoke
It's only an hour flight from the city of Vancouver to the slopes of Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Surrounded by the Selkirk and Monashee mountains, you'll find every winter experience imaginable in this mountain town. Downhill skiing, heli- and cat-skiing, Nordic trails, backcountry experiences. and snowmobiling are all nearby.
Prince George
A slightly longer flight from Vancouver, but worth the trip if you like dry powder and no crowds. The area around Prince George has multiple alpine ski destinations to discover.
