How to enjoy a progressive dinner in Halifax, Nova Scotia
Have you ever heard of a progressive dinner? In a nutshell, it's when you enjoy different courses of a meal at different people's houses (if it's a progressive dinner party) or at different restaurants. Halifax is packed with amazing restaurants and unfortunately you likely won't be able to try them all during your visit so... how about jamming as many into one evening as possible?
Here are some recommendations to get you started! Each of these locations are within a short walking distance of one another.
Pre-dinner cocktail
A Mexican restaurant may not be the first thing that comes to mind for dropping in for a pre-dinner cocktail but this relatively new-on-the-food-scene eatery has an extensive drinks menu. From wine and beer (including Nova Scotian varieties), to several tequilas, mescal, and other non-agave spirits, to Mexican cocktails -- margaritas included!
Appetizer
Pub food with personality will get your mouth watering at The Auction House. Truffle fries, spicy beer, bacon and cheese dip, and crispy chicken bites on waffles are just but a sampling of the starters available here. Wash it down with one of the many beers available on tap, including many Nova Scotian craft options, as you tap your toes to the live entertainment or take part in a live food auction where all proceeds are given to a local charity.
Main course
Just a few doors down at The Five Fishermen you can get your seafood fix. The menu is a delicious combination of delectably prepared dishes from both the land and sea, with seafood being the specialty. The restaurant is in a historic building which lends itself to a few ghostly tales. Ask your server about the history of the building and the mysterious happenings -- you may just experience a supernatural sensation yourself.
Dessert and coffee
If you still have room left, drop by Durty Nelly's for dessert. Their dessert menu has a bit of Irish flair and includes such things as a dark chocolate brownie with Guinness chocolate sauce, Irish coffee cr?me brul?e, banoffee pie, and sticky toffee pudding with whiskey sauce. With live entertainment five nights a week, this is the perfect venue to finish off your progressive meal.
Night cap
Cap off the evening with one of the creative cocktails available at Lot Six. The talent behind the bar will prepare a carefully-crafted, imaginatively-named beverage with the perfect blend of flavours.
